Ms. Han Myeong-sook, who represents left-leaning forces, pledged today (Monday) to be a leader who is in touch with the people.
Ms. Han is the second woman to enter the race. Park Geun-hye is also running as a candidate for the conservative opposition Grand National Party.
Ms. Han served as prime minister in President Roh Moo-huyn's administration for nearly a year until she stepped down in March.
South Korea's president serves for a single, five-year term. Mr. Roh finishes his term in February.
